The already traditional FICA (International Fair of Friendly Cultures) was inaugurated today, May 31, 2019, in the forest of Chapultepec, and will remain open to the public until the day of its closing, on June 16, 2019.
The Fair, which had been carried out first on Paseo de la Reforma and then in the Zócalo of Mexico City, as it became the busiest cultural and public event, was installed this year in the forest of Chapultepec, on the corridor of the Quinta Colorada , where products such as clothing and handicrafts are exhibited, and over one side of Los Pinos Cultural Complex, where the gastronomy area was installed.
FICA 2019 (Articles, handicrafts and souvenirs)
Initially, over Reform avenue, FICA counted on 50 participants. Now there are 90 representatives of very distant and very different nations that with their participation reiterate the friendship their cultures have with Mexico.
On the corridor of the Quinta Colorada the stands of articles such as traditional clothes and typical handicrafts were installed. There it is possible to get some garment or souvenir from some exotic and distant place. Climbing the slope, to the Cultural Complex Los Pinos, the food stands were installed. It is, for sure, no matter how expert someone prenteds, you can taste something completely new and unspectable delicious, among the many culinary proposals that offer us.
The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, who was there during the opening event, welcomed the visitors and said that not only the International Fair of the Friendly Cultures was celebrated, but also the addition to the public area of the forest of the section 4, Los Pinos area, which had been of exclusive military access, and also the fact that Mexico City had been recognized as the Ibero-American Capital of culture for the 2021. She said, "that is why we are the Cultural Capital of America, not only because here the story resides and there is the enormous diversity that our country represents".
It should be mentioned that, when the fair was in Paseo de la Reforma or in the Zocalo, it was possible to cross it from one side to the other in a few minutes. Now, spread over the main internal roads of the Chapultepec Forest, the one who visits it must be prepared to walk for at least a couple of kilometres.
