The Ministry of Public Education (SEP), given the world situation regarding the Corona virus, decided to advance and extend the Easter holidays to one month.

Thus, schools in Mexico will have a long vacation period that will begin on March 20 and end on April 20, 2020, although the Easter vacation period in the country of Sombrero usually lasts only two weeks, from 5 to April 11.

According to the Secretary of Public Education, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, at his press conference on Saturday, March 14, 2020, the extension of the school vacation period was carried out to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, which is increasingly alarming.

In addition, SEP also canceled citizen sporting events and festivals that are commonly held in schools, to minimize the spread of Covid-19 among the school population.

"We are talking about these measures reaching all levels, that is, 33 million students, 250,000 schools," said Esteban Moctezuma, and called on the general public to avoid traveling abroad during the Easter season, to avoid infection.

The measures to follow, proposed by the Secretary of Public Education were accepted and determined after the head of the Department of Public Education (SEP) met with the Vice Minister of Health of Mexico, Hugo López-Gatell, Vice Minister of Federal Education and Secretary of State for Education on Saturday morning.
